The information on this page is to help better serve our stewards in their role at the workplace.  We need to hear from our stewards!  If there is any information that you would like to see here, please contact Communications Coordinator Kate Sullivan at (860) 343-8721 or via e-mail at

The job of a steward is the most challenging, most rewarding, and most important job in our union.  That’s because of you – you are on the front lines of fighting to protect our members’ rights and bring fair and decent treatment to the workplace.

The steward is the one union person our members see every day when they go to work. It is important to be a fair and knowledgeable representation of your contract for all NP-2 State employees.

A steward carries out a number of roles:

  • Leader
  • Organizer
  • New member contact
  • Communicator
  • Representative
  • Educator
  • Problem solver

By performing these steward tasks, you will gain the confidence and respect of your co-workers and management.  Your union will be stronger and better able to protect workers’ rights and fight for improvements in wages, hours, working conditions and quality of life on the job.
