GET INVOLVED!

Sometimes members forget the important role politics play in their lives. Political action is especially important for public employees. Most workers do not have the opportunity to hire or fire their own boss.  You do!  By getting involved in politics, you can decide who controls the future of thousands of public employees. Don't let others decide your future! Help out:

  • Volunteer - phone banking, visibility, leafleting, canvassing and Election Day work
  • Donate to COPE (our political action fund)
  • Join the COPE Committee (members interested in political action)
  • Contact your legislators - write, phone, e-mail and attend events.

Don't know who your legislative representatives are?  Find out here.

CLEAN CONTRACTING IS THE LAW!

Ever since Governor Rowland was forced to resign in disgrace over numerous corruption charges, state workers have pushed for legislation to address the Connecticut's privatization scandals.

Finally this year, the General Assembly passed, and Governor Jodi Rell signed,  a "clean contracting" compromise reform bill during a September special session, setting a new standard for disclosure, transparency, quality control and common sense practices.

As a result of this groundbreaking legislation, state employees will enjoy some measure of job security, state agencies will have to comply with a series of detailed steps before privatizing state work and be subjected to strict oversight on those projects, and taxpayers will know how their tax dollars are being spent.
