| The
Municipal Employees Union Independent (M.E.U.I.) is dedicated
to improving the lives of workers and their families and creating
a more just and humane society.
M.E.U.I. represents municipal employees throughout the State of
Connecticut. We represent city and town employees ranging from administrative
bargaining units comprised of positions such as Assessor, Planning
Director, Building Official and Recreation Director, to Highway
Department, Water Department, Police Dispatch, Maintenance and Park
and Recreation employees. We also represent Board of Education employees
in bargaining units comprised of Bus Drivers, Cafeteria Workers,
Custodians, Secretaries and Teaching Assistants.
Our experienced staff handle contract and pension negotiations
both at the bargaining table and in interest binding arbitration.
Throughout the negotiations process we work with the negotiating
committee elected by the members, and bargain for proposals crafted
from the input of the membership. We are well versed in Workers’
Compensation and disability laws, and our Workers’ Compensation
department assists M.E.U.I. members who have been injured on the
job. We investigate and file grievances and represent members at
grievance arbitration. When necessary to protect members’
rights, we file prohibited practices under the Municipal Employees
Relations Act.
We also strengthen the union and the labor movement as a whole
by organizing new members, with our reputation for service helping
us to organize unorganized workers to fight for improved wages,
benefits, and working conditions.
Our trademark is SERVICE.
If you would like to contact us, call 1-800-622-3359
or 860-344-0311 and ask to speak with
the Organizing Department or a MEUI Staff Representative.
