2001 CEUI Scholarship Recipients

The Connecticut Employees Union Independent Local 511 each year
awards four $2,500 scholarships to deserving children of Union members.
The scholarship, named in honor of founder and first President Salvatore
J. Perruccio, is primarily financed through the proceeds of the
annual Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament was held on
Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Portland Golf Club in Portland,
CT.
The Scholarship recipients, along with their parent(s), were introduced
at the awards banquet following the 14th Annual Golf Tournament.
This year’s CEUI scholarship recipients are:
Nicholas Klock is a graduate of Nathan
Hale-Ray in East Haddam, CT. He will be attending Eastern College
in PA in the fall. Nicholas's parents are Thomas and Joanne
Klock of East Haddam. Thomas is a Highway Maintainer for DOT
in Haddam, CT. Joann is an Independent Contractor in Chester. Nicholas
has one sister, Abby Klock, 13. Nicholas hopes to pursue a
career in business and biblical studies.
Brian Warren Jr. is a graduate of Tourtellotte
Memorial of Thompson, CT. He will be attending Vermont Technical
College in the Fall. Brian's parents are Brian Sr. and Darlene
Warren. Brian Sr. is a Maintainer II for DOT in Putnum. Darlene
works in Customer Service at Logee's Greenhouse in Danielson. Brian
has one brother, Christopher 17. Brian hopes to pursue his
career in Architectural Engineering.
Theresa DeNardis is a graduate of Stafford
High School in Stafford Springs, CT. She will be attending
Western Connecticut State University in the Fall. Theresa's
parents are Steven and Donna DeNardis. Steven is a Maintainer
II for DOT. Donna is an Administrator for Mobile Med Support. Theresa
has one brother, Anthony, 19. Theresa hopes to pursue a career
in elementary education.
Carla Bombaci is a graduate of Middletown
High School. She will be attending the University of Connecticut
in the Fall. Carla's parents are Louis and Paula Bombaci. Louis
is a QCW Painter at the Dept. of Public Works. Paula is a Purchasing
Assistant for DOT. Carla hopes to pursue a career in mathematics.
In addition to the CEUI scholarship, the Municipal Employees Union
Independent, Local 506, also awards a $1,000 scholarship each year
to a deserving child of an MEUI member. There was no MEUI participants
this year.
The Salvatore J. Perruccio Humanitarian Award is given annually
to a union member for outstanding recognition of his/her time spent
serving the community by volunteering, proving his/her leadership
and always being there to lend a helping hand.
In recognition of your leadership and tireless service as first
lady of this union. You are a champion in the quest and struggle
to make a better life for workers, a woman of courage, a caretaker
of goodness and a valued colleague.
Your legacy of love, dedication, loyalty and service inspires others
to join the movement and raise their voices in support of workers. By
combining idealism and vision with wisdom and common sense you display
an extraordinary capacity to bring people together, to mediate differences,
and to advance the cause of labor.
